Hello my professional colleague we are already in hot season, the important issue that we are going to discuss is CSM (Cerebrospinal Meningitis):





CEREBROSPINAL MENINGITIS

DISEASE OF THE MENINGES.

HOT SEASONS:

MENINGITIS:- Inflammation of the Meninges is the most common and important disease affecting the Meninges.

TYPES OF MENINGITIS:

1- Pyogenic meningitis.

2- Tuberculous meningitis.

3- Virus meningitis.



SIGN AND SYMPTOMS:

Most of the sign and symptoms are the same in all forms of meningitis and are due to the inflammation of the Meninges causing increased intracranial pressure:

1- Onset

2- Headache

3- Vomiting

4- Convulsions

5- Neck rigidity

6- Drowsy and irritable.

TREATMENT PROTOCOL FOR CSM (without lab confirmations):

✓- Children 0-2months:
=> Ceftriaxone 100mg/kg/day im or iv once daily for 7dys

✓- Children >2 months:
=> Ceftriaxone 100mg/kg/day once day (maximun 2g) im or iv for 5dys transfer the pt if no improvement Within 48 hours.

✓- Children aged >14yrs and above:
=> Ceftriaxone 2g once dly im or iv for 5 days.



In Summary:

Meningitis- is an acute inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known collectively as the meninges

The most common symptoms are:
fever, headache and neck stiffness .

 Other symptoms include:
Confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light or loud noises .

 Young children:
 Often exhibit only nonspecific symptoms, such as irritability, drowsiness, or poor feeding. 

If a rash is present, it may indicate a particular cause of meningitis; for instance, meningitis caused by meningococcal bacteria may be accompanied by a characteristic rash.

Meninges of the central nervous system:
Dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater.

Specialty Infectious disease: 
Neurology.

Symptoms:
Fever, headache, neck stiffness 

Complications:
Deafness, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, cognitive deficits 

Causes: 
Viral, bacterial, other 

Diagnostic method:
Lumbar puncture.

Differential diagnosis:
Encephalitis, brain tumor,
lupus, Lyme disease, seizures, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, naegleriasis.

Prevention:
Vaccination.

Medication:
 Antibiotics, antivirals, steroids.
